The seasonal retailer is moving into a space in downtown Chilliwack that’s long been vacant

It looks like Chilliwack may have a Spirit of Halloween store popping up in the downtown area.

The old Blockbuster space in the FreshCo parking lot (45858 Yale Road) has been vacant since the video store closed, other than when it was used for COVID-19 vaccinations and election-night voting. But stacks of Spirit of Halloween shopping baskets are now visible through the windows, along with black pegboard and unopened boxes of merchandise.

Spirit of Halloween is a seasonal retailer that appears in communities in the weeks leading up to Halloween and disappears soon after. The last time it was in Chilliwack, the store occupied a space in a since-demolished section of Chilliwack Mall. Prior to that, the company set up in the former Zellers/Target space at Cottonwood Shopping Centre that was knocked down and rebuilt as a Save on Foods.

The closest Spirit of Halloween location last year was at Highstreet Shopping Centre in Abbotsford.
