MLA Kelli Paddon has decided to seek re-election in the electoral district of Chilliwack-Kent.
There’s a couple reasons why the announcement is coming right now, months ahead of the 2024 elections in October, Paddon said.
“Well, I turned another year older last week, and that’s often a time to consider where you are, where you’ve been, and make plans for what is coming next. I’ve had a chance to have conversations with my family and they are fully on-board, and so it’s something I’m excited about and wanted to share,” Paddon said about the prospect of running.
With the provincial election less than a year away, the local MLA, who is Parliamentary Secretary for Gender Equity, says people have been asking if she’s preparing to take another run for the seat.
“I thought this was a great time to officially share as we get ready to head into 2024,” Paddon said.
The NDP MLA who won the 2020 election against Laurie Throness of the B.C. Liberals said she’s proud of her accomplishments in concert with and for the Chilliwack-Kent community over the past three years, as well as the work ahead of her.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve in this way, and aware of what more needs to be done in the coming years to take care of people.”
Paddon said her focus will continue to be on the cost of living in B.C., as well as housing, health care, and sustaining an economy “that is strong, sustainable, and includes everyone.”
Her work is not done, Paddon said.
“For me, now was the time to be clear about my intention to run again and continue the work.”
