From the classical piano and cello to flamenco and motion capture opera, the beginning of the year at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre is set to be a musical and visual feast!
The beloved Bergmann Duo return to kick off our Winter Season with Spiegel im Spiegel, while re:Naissance opera combines real-time motion capture technology with opera to create a beautiful retelling of Greek myths in Live from the Underworld. Tamar Ilana & Ventanas brings powerhouse vocals and stunning flamenco dance to the stage alongside a five-piece band of the finest world musicians. These trailblazing artists will take you on a musical adventure that you won’t soon forget!
Joined by cellist Cameron Crozman, the Bergmann Duo returns to The Centre at a brand new time. On Jan. 26, 7:30 p.m., Spiegel im Spiegel will take audiences through Arvo Pärt’s evocative Spiegel im Spiegel for cello and piano. As well, the program will feature the fiery Requiebros by Gaspar Cassado and the atmospheric Blue Autumn by Marcel Bergmann. Let yourself be swept up into this emotional concert that will take you away from the stress of daily life.
On Feb. 3, Live from the Underworld will blend opera and technology in stunning ways that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Using motion capture technology, the performers will project digital avatars onto a screen in real time, creating a hybrid stage adaption that combines the digital arts with a live performance.
This enchanting performance will tell the story of Eurydice, as she meets the spirit farer Charon. Together, they will venture through the beautiful luminescent caverns of the underworld, as Eurydice comes to a decision on whether she will reclaim her heritage or reconnect with the man she loves.
Together, powerful vocals, remarkable flamenco and the finest musicians in world music come together for an unforgettable concert! Tamar Ilana & Ventanas arrive at The Centre on Feb. 10 for an evening that mixes contemporary interpretations of ancient ballads with original compositions. Singing her way through an incredible twenty languages, Tamar Ilana takes Mediterranean melodies and flamenco grooves, and captivates audiences with the help of five virtuosic musicians.
