Four B.C. breweries are coming home with awards from the 2024 World Beer Cup.

Held in Las Vegas on April 24, the annual event is one of the largest beer competitions in the world and is hosted by the Brewers Association (BA). At the event, awards are handed to the best beers over 110 categories. This year, 2,060 breweries across 50 countries were represented as a panel of 280 judges evaluated 9,300 entries.

Victoria’s Phillips Brewing and Malting Co., well-known around the province, won gold in the American-Style Sour Ale category with their Dinosour Stone Fruit.

In the historical beer category, Kelowna’s Jackknife Brewing won silver with their Hunting Lodge, a Juniper Nordic lager.

Around B.C., Whistler Brewing also won gold in the Chocolate beer category with their Whistler Winter Dunkel beer.

North Vancouver’s Shaketown Brewing’s Pre-Prohibition Pilsner won bronze in the American-Style Pilsner category.

“Each award represents not only exceptional quality but also innovation and creativity, driving the global craft beer industry forward,” said World Beer Cup competition director Chris Williams. “This year’s winners exemplify the spirit of craftsmanship and ingenuity and showcase the diverse flavors and techniques that make beer an art form. Congratulations to this year’s winners for their outstanding achievements in brewing.”

In total, there were 329 awards handed out.
